Vegetation Management West

What brought you to the area and how long have you been here?
Jerry & Louise Neff came from Minnesota to help Cody and Stephanie Neff with West Range Reclamation in 2006 and in 2011started Vegetation Management West.
Tell us about your business:
VMW’s primary focus is managing the safety of high-voltage transmission lines.  Their only customer is the “United States Department of Energy”.  VMW is in the third year of a 5-year contract with the Department of Energy to manage vegetation under 5,500 miles of transmission lines across Colorado.  These lines typically originate at the power source and terminate at a Distribution Center. The number one priority with VMW is safety.  The company has currently logged 62,162.00 hours of vegetation management without an accident.

VMW is lead by Owners, Jerry and Louise Neff; Office Manager, Cathy Cheatham; Mechanized Treatment Manager, Mike Lumsden; and Hand Crew Manager, Nate Owens and Hand Crew Supervisor, Michael Beck. The company is highly focused on caring about the environment, doing business locally and hiring locally wherever possible. The company currently has 16 employees from the Crawford/North Fork area.

Does your business have a specialty of some kind?
Our specialty is removing danger trees from dangerous situations.  The power lines we work under carry up to 345,000 volts and require extreme care and precise adherence to procedures. VMW has invested heavily in specialized equipment that enables crews to complete their work with a minimum of ground disturbance. The company strives to recycle, and respect the land they are working on at all times.

Is there anything special you would like to tell us about yourself, your family or your business?
Vegetation Management West is dedicated to providing quality employment for its people and supporting the communities in which they live.  The company has supported Pioneer Days, Chamber’s “Festival of Trees”, is helping with the new running track at Paonia High School and is committed to supporting the North Fork Valley Montessori School to ensure a sustained, top quality, elementary school in Crawford.
