West Range Reclamation LLC

What brought you to the area and how long have you been here? Owners Cody and Stephanie Neff moved to Crawford in the spring of 2005.
We had done some rangeland work for Scenic Mesa Ranch and some other ranches in the area and loved this valley, especially Crawford. We decided to “headquarter” West Range Reclamation, LLC here.

When did you establish your business? West Range Reclamation was started in May of 2001.

Tell us about your business:
West Range Reclamation, LLC is a forest management company. We help manage forests to reduce the risk of catastrophic wildfire, restore native vegetation and wildlife habitat and create a healthy environment to ensure forest regeneration in the future.  Our mission statement:  We are leaders in sustainable forest management, improving forest health and benefiting communities and families for generations to come. Our office hours are Monday – Friday, 8 am to 5 pm.

Is your business “famous” for anything or do you have a specialty of some kind?  We have gotten recognition in the last couple years for our work with the Forest Service in reducing the “Beetle Kill” tree population, helping to create a better forest for our future generations. We are fortunate to live in a country where people care & act on taking care of our land.

Is there something about your family you would like to share with us?
We feel very blessed and honored to be leading this company. Our people are the absolute best, they care deeply about what they do and how they do it. We could have never made it this far without them, our amazing customers (especially the forest service) and our faith in God.

Stewart Homestead Cabin

The Stewart Homestead began in 1900 when Henry Stewart and family homesteaded in Onion Valley from Ireland.  There were 7 children and parents living in a 1 room cabin.  Life was hard but the land was theirs and they were responsible for their success.
My husband's mother was one of the 7 and we purchased the property in the 70’s.  Two of my husbands uncles were bachelors and they built the current cabin in the early 50’s which has been turned into the Stewart Homestead Cabin.
We began our business in the early 90’s and we currently are open year around, sleeping up to 10 guests.  The cabin kitchen is fully stocked and with an outside grill, all guests need to bring is their food.  There is a loft which has a double and 5 singles and a ground level bedroom with a queen and twin, two baths and laundry.

A fire pit is available for those star filled nights and a wood stove for cozy winter days.  Outdoor games with horseshoe pits add to our guests stay.  The cabin is a quiet getaway without phone or TV service.  Hummingbirds abound in the summer and coyotes call from the nearby hills. Our family is the 6th generation to live in this beautiful country and make our living from the land and we welcome our guests to enjoy our heritage and history.  Our web site is stewarthomesteadcabin.com.

Does your business have a specialty of some kind?
Our specialty is removing danger trees from dangerous situations.  The power lines we work under carry up to 345,000 volts and require extreme care and precise adherence to procedures. VMW has invested heavily in specialized equipment that enables crews to complete their work with a minimum of ground disturbance. The company strives to recycle, and respect the land they are working on at all times.
